About Leica Glow
Leica Glow is a unique characteristic often found when using Leica lenses. Some people see it. Others do not. It seems most do not. Just like some are color blind, and others are tone deaf, many seem to be unable to see Leica Glow.
For those that do, it is a phenomenal characteristic. It can be found in images not necessarily taken with Leica glass, but does seem to be a characteristic of rangefinders or cameras with short lens flange to film or sensor distance. It may have to do with a narrow cone of light traveling such a short distance. It produces a bright image. One that tends to appear to have a special glow about it.
Often it is found in images taken with wider apertures, specular highlights, and produces a very bright, short micro-contrast and wide range of tones. It may be the result of super sharp, contrasty foregrounds subjects in front of creamy smooth backgrounds from great bokeh and specular highlights.
Leica Glow is not flare. It is not simply because an image was taken with a Leica lens. I will invite you to join this group if I find images that demonstrate the effect, and that you know what it is.
