Flickr Military Building Competition 2011

The Results Are In!!!

Thanks for bearing with us! If at times, these competitions seem like a lot of “hurry up and wait”, we’re hoping you’ll agree that the quantity and quality in some of these categories made judging particularly difficult. The level of competition wasn’t equally high in all categories, so we’ve announced 2 to 3 winners in each category, depending on what the judge(s) felt was a fair apportionment of winners. Some of the most competitive categories even have an “honorable mention” – essentially a non-prize-winning 4th place to reflect high quantity as well as quality in the competing builds.

I’d like to thank Mad Physicist, chandlerparker, Babalas Shipyards, and Ezechielle (formerly ImageLego) for joining me as judges this time, for contributing their valuable time, and some hard earned money to help provide prizes. I’d like to give a shout out to Will Chapman and BrickArms for sponsoring us and helping out with BrickArms prizes yet again. And thanks to Jas for coming up with the competition image. We’ll see if he can drum up some medals as well.

Last, but definitely not least, I should like to thank everyone who built for the competition this year. Once we get something like this started, it is really up to the community to get it rolling, and keep it going.I hope you had fun building, and I hope to do this again some time.

So without further ado, here are the winners. Because the prizes for this year are a little bit random and potentially confusing, I will start a separate thread for them. Also look out for another thread in the future, with individual judges' notes on the winning builds, what they liked most and how they chose the winners, etc.

Most Impressive Builder

We also have a final award we’d like to announce. LegoJunkie has shown unprecedented enthusiasm for the competition this year. He entered nine separate builds, competing in every category except Destroyed Vehicle.

www.flickr.com/photos/legojunkie/sets/72157626382513813/

The fact that even with this astounding output, he only placed once, says something about the overall challenge of the 2011 competition overall. But at any rate, we’d like to show our appreciation for his tireless efforts and dub him Most Impressive Builder. In addition to his prize for the small dio, we will be sending him an additional surprise prize, which should prove useful in his army building.

Actually, I did enter all ten.

Hmm.... by [Lego Junkie]

;-)

Thanks for the third place selection guys!
It's been one heck of a year and I think one of my best models came out of this years competition!

While I wasn't expecting to place in the small diorama category, I'm pleased with that.

It would appear that St. George beat me out again in the Cold War Armor category.
Maybe next year!
:D

I want to send a big thanks out to the judges and organizers of the competition, it can't be easy dealing with a bunch of people asking for the results every other day while trying to judge.
Thanks to Magnus for hosting this competition and getting prizes for all the winners.
This has become an event I look forward to every year and I hope to participate again next year!

Thanks for a fun competition judges and participants. I'm a little surprised by a few of the decisions, particularly in the MLS category, but with so many quality entries, judging must have been extremely difficult! Congratulations to all of the winners.

Congratulations to everyone! And as Magnus said, some of the decisions were tough ones to make.

Aleks, it was a photo finish, with stewards enquiry between your BMP and Simon's ASCOD, both very good builds.

That does not suprise me at all, Simon's ASCOD was a definite favourite of mine too, among several other very stong builds.

Congrats to all fellow winners, you've all put in phenomenal efforts!
