★ Hardsuit All-Stars Building Contest ★

view profile

Cam M. is a group moderator Cam M.  Pro User  says:

On Flickr, we’ve seen countless amazing hardsuit models over the years. Many have come up with incredible techniques, designs, and frames that have inspired us all. But one question remains: Who is the best hardsuit builder of them all? This is your chance to put you skills to the test. It all comes down to this.
/Queue dramatic intro music.

How it Works
The Hardsuit All-Stars Contest will consist of two rounds. For round one, builders will compete to advance to round two, the “all-stars” round. Once the first round has ended, the builders of the five (this number may very based on how many entries we get) best hardsuits will move on to the second round. There will be specific rules for each round, so don’t just assume they are the same.

Round 1: Rules

• You may build any type of hardsuit you choose.
• Everyone can enter this round.
• You must build a suit. That means no robots whatsoever.
• Hardsuits that fit a whole minifig are recommended, but not required.
• Clone brands are not allowed.
• Third party accessory brands are allowed.
• You will score more points with creativity. Seriously, I don’t want this contest to be full of a bunch of military suits. Be creative and think of new ideas.
• The bigger the better! Even though, a smaller scale moc would be more realistic as a “suit,” I will award more points to the people who build larger scale hardsuits.
• Do not post a moc posted before this contest.
• Using others’ designs is not encouraged, but if you do, please give credit.
• Limit ONE entry per person.

*Rules for round two will be posted when the finalists are announced*

Prizes
Everyone who advances to the second round will receive a Hardsuit All-Stars Contest Finalist engraved brick. Of the five finalists, there will be one grand prize winner who will receive a Hardsuit All-Star Contest Winner engraved brick, plus other various prizes. All the engraved bricks will be compatible with any Lego convention name badge.
(If you would like me to ask for a Brickarms sponsorship, just let me know below)

Judges
(Iris) and I will be the two main judges.

ALL ROUND ONE ENTRIES ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 19th, 12:00 PM (AFTERNOON) EASTERN TIME.

Help spread the word about this contest so we can make it as fun and exciting as possible!

Please, no BA prizes... It just, doesnt fit the theme that well, and its too mainstream. Be a hipster, and have some useful hardsuit parts as prizes, or a gift card, or a small Hardsuit trophy. Those would be nice :3

Ask for a BA sponsorship, but I know that Will gets a lot of requests. Justin got GI Brick to sponsor a contest he ran, maybe you should try them if BA won't sponsor.

Of course I'd be even happier if you won real Laygoez. But I know that they cost a ton to ship.

Two questions:
Is the judging based only on the hardsuit? Say if I made a diorama to go with the hardsuit, would the whole moc be judged or just the suit itself?

If you entered a moc to the contest already, can you change your entry?

Ok, everyone, I have decided not to ask for a sponsorship and to buy the prizes with my own hard earned cash. Although they might not be worth as much as the newest BA prototype, they will somehow tie in to the theme of the contest. As much as I love Brickarms for sponsoring things and being awesome, I think people need to think of newer, creative prize ideas that aren't just free.

I have a strong aversion to Mega Blox, and other Lego imitators. The reason Brickarms, Brickforge, Brickwarriers, ect. are ok to use is that they only produce Lego accessories that the Lego Group generally doesn't create (guns and other weapons) because of their child based marketing.
Hope that answers your question
