Say something nice! It's time to post your testimonials
|
Hi all,
LEGO has requested at least three testimonials for each of the three nominees a community submits for consideration as a LEGO Ambassador.
If you'd like to say something nice about one or more of the nominees, that will go a long way toward helping us finalize the nomination e-mail to LEGO.
We'll of course do a final count next Saturday, but at this point the leading vote-getters are as follows:
* Andrew "Dunechaser" Becraft
* Aaron "DARKspawn" Andrews
* Nannan "Nannan Z" Zhang
So, without further ado, feel free to add a comment expressing support for one or more of the potential LEGO Ambassador nominees.

Andrew Dunechaser has been a leading figure in the lego community since I joined over two years ago. He has thousands of lego photos in his photostream, he's a well known builder over the interwebs, and he runs one of the most well known lego blogs The Brothers Brick. He respects the brick, and would be a great person to represent the lego community for the official lego group.

Ever since my first visits to Brickshelf, I was amazed by these awesome minifigs. I wondered whose they were, and I looked to see they were from "Dunechaser." At the time, I wondered: "Who is this guy? He certainly makes a heck of a lot of cool minfigs! And they don't use decals or glue!" I was fascinated. Andrew, you have inspired me to make more custom minifigs, and to be active in the Lego Community. You are an active part of the online community, and are a great and well-renowned Lego activist. I'd love to see you as an ambassador.
As for Nannan, he was another one of those early fascinations. I was in an odd state of awe at some of his wacky creations. Wacky, brilliant, and certainly win. I was amazed by his surrealist stuff, and that awesome Killer Bunny. He has been another factor in inspiring me to new heights.
Darkspawn, well I haven't seen much of his stuff, but the few creations I've seen of his are certainly nothing short of amazing. From castles to Beowulf, his mocs are inspiring, and something people do and should look up to.
Congratulations guys!

Andrew Becraft
Andrew has made his mark on the LEGO fan base both in person and offline by doing what he does best, building community. Through his efforts on the popular The Brother's Brick blog he has continually strived to unite the diverging interests of the online community in one place for all fans of LEGO to enjoy.
Flickr is one of the main places Andrew seems to draw from for material to feature on The Brothers Brick and his efforts have gone a long way to not only promote the online LEGO community but also the Flickr LEGO community - one the few places where enthusiasts of almost every LEGO theme have come together in the one place to call their home.
Andrew is also reknown for his love of the minifig and has become one of the most notable builders who specialise in just building minifigs. His involvement within the community is very broad, being a n active staff member of the Builders Lounge group and a member of the Classic Castle website, amongst others. Andrew is also a member of his local LUG and has attended events and displayed his work many times in public.
Andrew has a friendly and positive attitude and works hard to promote the hobby. Andrew has already proven himself to be a fantastic LEGO Ambassador, he has my full support.
Nannan Zhang
Nannan is both a popular "face" and a regular contributor to Flickr both as a talented builder and also for his advice and commentry he lends to fellow Flickr users. Nannan has become an inspiration for many builders through his positive attitude and his unique perspective of the LEGO hobby. .
Nannan has made a difinitive mark across the oniline community for both his unique style of self expression through his hobby and the broadness of his online presence. Beyond being just a distinguished builder Nannan has forged his own path of artistic discovery using the LEGO product as his medium. He has become reknown for his surealistic creations, most especially as the progenitor of the popular Black Fantasy fan-theme.
Nannan is the most visable and consistant member of the Builders Lounge staff, he is a capable administrator and has become an invaluable asset to the workings of the Lounge as a whole. Nannan takes a keen interest in the creations of others and is an active contributer of advice on many sites such as Flickr, MOCpages & Classic Space Foums. He is also a regular contributor to the popular The Brothers Brick blog, showcasing creations from across the broader community.
Nannan is a positive contributor to the community as a whole, his broad involvement with the AFOL community would make him an excellent choice for LEGO Ambassador.

Hey,
Is it okay to re-use the testimonials I already wrote for CC?
Andrew:
Andrew Becraft, who uses the nickname Dunechaser in on-line forums, is a prominent member of the LEGO community. He has been active on Classic-Castle for almost four years and is a great contributor to the conversation and the overall sense of camaraderie in our forum. I know that he is also a member of a number of other forums, such as FBTB and the Builders Lounge, as well as being an active participant in SEALUG and attending the NWBrickCon fests. He is also a current LEGO Ambassador.
Andrew's primary field of building is minifigs. Unlike those who use paint, decals, cutting etc to create custom minifigs, Andrew is a purist who uses existing LEGO elements to create immediately recognizable characters from history, movies, literature, entertainment, etc. These, as well as other creations such as vigs and microscale MOCs, can be found on his Flickr and Brickshelf accounts:
www.flickr.com/photos/dunechaser/
www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=Dunechaser
Perhaps most importantly, though, is Andrew's work in blogging. He started his own blog, Dunechaser's Blocklog, back in July of 2005. It started out primarily to present his own minifig creations, then expanded to feature great minifig creations by others. A few months later he started another blog, Pan-Pacific Bricks, to focus on LEGO fans in Japan and other Asian nations. Since Andrew lived part of his life in Japan and speaks the language, he could form a bridge of sorts between the English-speaking online LEGO world and the Japanese-speaking LEGO world. This was a great help, because there was previously little contact between these two segments of our hobby - we'd see eachother's creations on Brickshelf, but didn't read eachother's forums, and Andrew helped build in ties. Eventually Andrew's two blogs got merged into the Brothers Brick, as he added partners and the focus grew to feature great LEGO creations from all themes and important news about our hobby. The Brothers Brick may well be the most recognized site among LEGO fans across themes and is a way we can keep in touch with different aspects of the hobby, especially since people have migrated away from a more central on-line site like Lugnet towards more theme or region specific forums like Classic Castle and Classic Space.
Andrew would be great in a continuing role as an Ambassador. He is well known and liked across the spectrum of LEGO fans and is great at tying the community together.
Aaron:
Testimonial for Aaron "DARKspawn" Andrews from Bruce "Bruce n h" Hietbrink (Classic-Castle Admin and also blogger on VignetteBricks, MicroBricks and MinilandBricks):
Aaron Andrews, who goes by the nickname DARKspawn in online forums, has been an active member of Classic-Castle since September 2006. He is an outstanding builder and has been a strong contender in many of our MOC contests, either placing or winning about everything he's entered. Most prominently, in our Colossal Castle Contest 5, our signature annual contest to promote the Castle theme, he had six great entries and won the title "Master Builder" for the overall best participant. A quick perusal of his Brickshelf gallery will show a large number of very high quality creations, mostly in castle, but also in themes like mecha, space, steampunk and town.
www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=DARKspawn
In addition to being a great builder, Aaron is also a great member of the community, taking an active role in the conversations on our site and on several other LEGO forums. I know that he is active on the Builders Lounge, in various Flickr groups (including administering a couple) and in BrisLUG (local LEGO Users Group in Brisbane, Australia). He is also a regular guest on the Radio LAML podcast.
Aaron would be an outstanding LEGO Ambassador. Not only is he a great builder, but he is also a great member of the community. He is well known and liked and brings together various themes and can also represent the interests of Australian LEGO fans - which is important since fans from the US and Europe tend to have the largest voice in the community.

Of the three nominees from this group, what can be said about one, can be said about the others: They are master builders, working at the very highest in skill and technique, each with their own style. What makes them remarkable, is their generosity of spirit, where they share their knowledge readily with others. In fact, in the on-line community, they are everywhere, and are known quite throughout. They provide insight, critique, support, and examples to the very beginner to the well experienced of Lego builders in a friendly and forthright manner through one on one conversations, comments, and even interviews and articles in Lego related journals and podcasts.
In addition, I'd like to point out the following:
I credit Nannan Zhang with bringing me out of my so called 'dark age' and transforming me from a casual fan to a devoted fan, based on his interview in Brickjournal. It inspired me to join the on-line community and push myself to create better models.
Aaron Andrews is easily the most friendly and approachable in the online Lego community, and puts a good face on the image of adult Lego fans with his easy and genial manner.
Andrew Becraft is not only a tireless supporter of the online Lego community, but also a supporter of individuals within the community; helping, advising, and showcasing the very best.

Aaron ( DARKspawn ) Andrews.
I have always admired Aarons community spirit and dedication to the world of Lego, he is a very approachable, easygoing guy, always ready to offer help and support. He is able to create a positive environment in which others can feel comfortable, and can walk into difficult situations, and calmly defuse any issues and settle problems. He is very active across many lego communities, and is appreciated and respected by his peers.
I believe he would make an excellent Lego Ambassador.

Aaron Andrews
I first took notice of Aaron "DARKSpawn" Andrews' building skills nearly a year and a half ago, beginning as a very active member of Classic-Castle.com and then branching into themes such as mecha and microscale. Since then, I've gotten to know Aaron better here on Flickr and on Builders Lounge, and today I admire him as much for his positive outlook and communication skills as for his continued success as a builder.
Through his ceaseless succession of excellent creations, Aaron has rightfully earned a reputation as one of the best builders in the world. It's no surprise that he's been nominated from three separate LEGO fan communities on the Web.
Between his willingness to participate fully in the various communities to which he belongs (both online and offline) and his stellar building skills, I believe Aaron would make an excellent LEGO Ambassador. To that end, Aaron has my highest recommendation.
Nannan Zhang
Nannan’s LEGO creations have earned him features in BrickJournal and the Official Xbox Magazine (and he was a regular on The Brothers Brick long before joining as a contributor). Perhaps LEGO won’t be releasing a surrealist or Black Fantasy set anytime soon, but Nannan’s unique perspective and his skill with unusual building techniques would be enormous assets to the LEGO Ambassador program.
But Nannan isn’t just a prolific builder and blogger. Active in more online LEGO communities than I can list, he scours the Web for truly the best creations to feature on The Brothers Brick, often leading to highlights on non-LEGO blogs like Gizmodo, Neatorama, and Boing Boing Gadgets — increasing exposure for the LEGO fan community and perhaps recruiting a few new LEGO fans along the way.
The fact that Nannan has been nominated from not one but four LEGO fan communities speaks volumes to the respect he has earned from his fellow fans, both as a builder and as a community leader. Nannan Zhang has my full support as a nominee representing LEGO fans on Flickr.

Aaron has contributed much to the various LEGO communities online, and his contributions to the Flickr community is no different. On Flickr, Aaron has founded the LEGO Fantasy group to host a gallery of castle, magical, and fantasy MOCs. His own castle creations have become perhaps the best on Flickr. In addition, Aaron frequently comments on works by others and gives constructive criticism. His presence is definitely felt by most. Aaron's involvement on Flickr and in other communities such as Classic Castle, Builders Lounge, and MOCpages shows that he is a community oriented builder and LEGO enthusiast well suited for the LEGO Ambassador position.
Andrew's omnipresence in the LEGO communities is sustained and strong. His involvement on Flickr is certainly apparent. As a LEGO enthusiast who cares a great deal about other fans and their works, Andrew is constantly browsing Flickr and adding anyone who has LEGO pictures in his or her photostream as a contact. I don't think there's anyone with more LEGO contacts than Andrew. This allows him to not only see what the newest creations and news from the most LEGO fans but also ensures that no important article is missed for the Brother's Brick blog. Andrew is indeed a man for the community.
