I always add the "boncey" tag to all photos with me in.
So I checked the boncey tag.
When sorting by "Most Interesting" I noticed the photo of mine that is actually my most interesting of all was *last* in the list.
This to me suggests we're seeing it sorted by least interesting.
Anyone else care to see if they get any similar results?

hmmmm, i'm wondering how this thing really works, i think a photo would rate high in interestingness if it has lots of favorites and comments proportionate to high views.
something with lots of views and few actions like comments, notes and favorites wouldn't be as interesting as something with as many actions as views, or pretty close anyway
tagging and adding to groups would get the photo higher exposure but we need to get higher actions too, i think
each of us can only favorite it once but we can comment the hell out of it all we want so let's be sure to add a comment with every view
going to copy this to the photo as a comment now and add the tags

Continuing on from teotwawki's puerile search, I thought it would be interesting (in a public school sort of way) to see the most and least interesting fart pictures.
The most interesting is somewhat predictable...
The least interesting is a bit easier on the eyes
At the time of writing this has been favourited 5 times!! Which just goes to show you - farting gets you favourites.

OK, I've just thrown all my Flickr principles in the air and favourited "dancing me with friend - part 2" in a shameless attempt to nudge it up a place or two (and of course to get in those 2 girls' good books).
@VZ: Glad you liked the fart finds. But remember kids, don't try to make your own version of that photo at home (with or without the self-timer).
PS: didn't work. "dancing me with friend - part 2" is still at #40.

Yout think that there is a correlation between interestingness and how much time is in between the upload date and the comment/favorite/view date?
Well, Swedish Babe's photo has 12 comments (8 unique comments not including her)from one month since the photo was uploaded.
Ivan's photo has 33 comments (20 unique) within a span of 8 days since being uploaded. It also has 8 more favs, but around 2000 less views.
Ali's photo which is #2 has 17 comments (15 unique) within one month of being uploaded. It has 15 less favs than Swedish Babe's pic and over 2000 less views.
The #3 most interesting party picture has only 3 comments in a one month span since the photo was uploaded, but has 74 more favs and about 1000 less views.
Conclusion? I have no idea.

i think faves have to have more weight than comments, not sure if the timing matters though
this was at the bottom of the party pile yesterday and rose over 200,000 places to #45 within a matter of hours once we got started.
going off notihing but how I might design the algorithm i would give more weight to faves and "blog this" than just about anything else. and if a photo had thousands of views but only a few faves i think it would be less interesting compared to a photo with fewer views and more faves, that makes sense but how do we manipulate it?
i just think we have to fave it and blog it to death until it jumps up there
i appreciate your taking one for the team like that Jim, you're a good man and once the flickrvers is in balance i'm looking forward to partying with you in Sweden

@Jim: no, i don't have any indicators that rentahamster marked my photo offensive, no flickr message, nothing on the photo page, nothing in organizr. i think flickr only contacts you if enough people (3 or more i think) mark it as offensive and then flickr asks you to make it private or something...but it seems only 1 "may offend" mark is enough to remove it from interestingness scales

Update on the Restoration of Balance project:
Plan B, we have a new colorized version of the original photo which we're trying to push to the top now.
Currently we're on page 5, 88th place for the party tag! Not a bad debut but we need more faves! we can take this one all the way to the top

Rain -- I just don't know... I am Swedish... what can I say. I am pretty liberal. The things I find offensive are maybe not what the average American would find offensive, and vice versa. The Flickr Team should be proud to have such a lively, intelligent, and creative community going on.
So we do know now what makes a picture interesing according to Flickr? Favorites rank the picture higher, comments are good, tags and notes semi-good, blogging it is super-good.
And high views = probably nipple-warning and not very good for the interestingness, because it is not safe for kids.

@Lorri37: we think too many views without enough actions (comments, faves, notes, blogging) hurts the interestingness because the algorithm reads it as "well lots of people are looking at it but then they're not saying anything about it or favoriting it so it must not be that interesting..."
at least that's the impression we had from the original BW pic we were rallying behind...she had over 2000 views but only a few faves and was languishing at the bottom of the party pool

edit: now it's dropped back down to #57 for some reason, but it's still showing so at least it hasn't been blacklisted yet...
