About Le Tramway (restaurant)
It is gone, but never forgotten
In the mid seventies, owner Stratton Denis Stevens opened Le Tramway in the heart of downtown Montreal. This restaurant was one of the cities most uniquely decorated eateries. The theme decor was entirely fashioned around streetcars and their special charm. Everywhere you looked you found actual trolley fixtures and paraphernalia cleverly put to practical use such as picture frames and plant holders.
Apart from the appeal of such an interesting decor, the main attraction there was the food. Hearty portions of pub fare including steaks, smoked meat and fish & chips were served along with ice cold draught on tap by an extremely fast and friendly staff, at reasonable prices.
The atmosphere was always bright and lively due to the constant influx of tourists, shoppers and local business people. This was also a perfect spot for before or after the movies since its location within easy walking distance of three major cinema complexes.
Unfortunately, the restaurant went out of business in 1996. Now, there is a Second Cup at this address. A few traces of Le Tramway have remained though. If you take a closer look, you will find them.
Anyone in possession of pictures taken at Le Tramway and willing to share them is encouraged to post them here.
