Hi all... here is my attempt at this months contest. When I first saw SLICK, my first thought was OIL SLICK, and then my next thought was the ongoing oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico as the worst oil slick in history... So that got me thinking on how to photograph oil, make it look good, and with a hidden message/kick to point back to the current oil issues!!
Really like how this ended up and is currenly my abstract background for my PC! It looks almost CGI/computer generated, but I assure you it is all real, only post work out of the camera was RAW adjustments to boost the contrast and colours, and some spot removal to clean up what I thought was a clear piece of glass!! Shot with Canon 40D 1/200s, f/16, ISO200 and a Canon 430EZ in shoot through Westcott 43" umbrella camera left, triggered with some PT04-IS triggers (half power I think?!).
Hope you all like it, and it works for the competition!!

Yeah, I really like how it ended up, too! You're putting the bar pretty high for this month's contest...
What did you use for the drops; is it actually water? I've tried doing water drop shots on a mirror in the past, and I ended up using vegetable oil for the drops, as water just wasn't viscous enough to give me good beads of liquid. Did you have trouble with that? Is there a secret to getting water to bead up well on a surface rather than just flattening out all over it?

Hi,
If you click on the image you will get the full description from my profile page, but basically it is basic kitchen olive oil (extra virgin olive oil.. yum!) on a piece of glass, and the logo/background is behind/underneath it. The oil was "yellow-y" but you can't see any colour cast due to the high power of the flash and the bold yellow and greens of the BP logo.
All I used to place the oil was a straw and held the top when in the bottle and then droped oil on... they were all circles to begin with, but the nature of the oil and surface tension caused some neighbours to stick together and they all started to do their own thing!! Might try again some time and get perfect circles, or make a flower pattern or something?!!?
Glad you liked it, and thanks for the comments!!

This is the photo that I would like to enter into the July contest. The "slick" part of the photo is made up of dots of hand sanitizer that reflect the reversed image of the flag below them.

I'd like to enter.

My son, Riley, on our new slip n slide. It was my picture of the day yesterday, hence the border and the writing at the bottom. I do have a non-Project 365'ed picture if that's more appropriate.
PS: not sure how to make the image any larger. Tips?

@gwonchang I had the same problem, so this is what I did... Go to your picture in your photostream, click on Share (above the pic), choose Grab HTML, choose the pic size, copy the HTML and paste it into this thread. Not sure if that's the correct way to do it, but it worked for me...

My mind first went to water, then oil. But then I remembered this photo and realized that motion can sure be slick!

I took this in early July. I like how the sunlight makes the palm leaves look very coppery, slick!

I just discovered this group through Canon blogger website.
I hope this will be a "beginner chance" as we say in french, to win the fantastic LR3 free copy.
The theme for this month reminds me this photo token last winter. It is a personal interpretation for slick.
Hope you'd like it.
Please do not hesitate to put a comment on it !
PS: Is the size ok ?
