Perhaps it was this search for beauty that prompted a few photo-crazy people to invest a large amount of money in cameras. Perhaps it was this search for beauty that prompted a few photo-crazy people to venture out of their homes every Sunday morning, instead of lazing around in bed.
Perhaps it was this search for beauty that gave birth to KWS.
Not merely a three letter word, KWS or Kolkata Weekend Shoots, is an extremely integral part of our lives. An outlet for creative energies, artistic brilliance and some fun, it provides us with a much needed escape into a world of dreams. Far from the maddening crowd and sometimes even into that crowd, we plunge headlong to discover the depths of our hearts through the creative medium of photography. Yes, a Single Lens seems the world to us, a Reflex action to life’s trauma.
Today, we stand here after treading a path full of petals and thorns alike. Life has been man’s supreme teacher, but we can say that KWS has been a friend, philosopher and guide for us. It is through this forum that we have met our closest friends, our life partners and truly experienced life. Today, we can proudly boast of having members from all walks of life. Whether they are doctors, engineers, students, teachers… we have them all. And if that is not enough, one of us regularly shoots beautiful models!
Looking back at the past two years, one can say that we have grown with time. Our members have now started getting due recognition in the world of photography. Many members have had the privilege of their images being published in prestigious magazines like Better Photography, Smart Photography, and Rolling Stone India, amongst others. After a hundred and four weekends and numerous achievements, we find ourselves as one of the premier photography groups of the City of Joy, Kolkata.
A Search for Framed Reveries
KWS meets every weekend on the streets of Kolkata. We try to capture the essence of this magical city. A vagabond with a pained expression is as magical to us as is a small child planting steps on the walk of life. With every weekend of sheer visual assault, we find ourselves enriched with a plethora of human emotions. All these, captured through the humble lens.
But then, we do not limit ourselves to the confines of the city. We regularly organize trips to spots that are close to the city, and try to capture the beauty of nature in its purest form. What could be more serene than a sunset beside a lake bathing in the golden sun? What could be more exciting than storm clouds hovering over a turbulent river?

Kolkata Weekend Foodies…!
Not only do we try to satisfy our insatiable search for the perfect photograph, but also our insatiable thirst for lassi, cold drinks and tea! Food is an integral aspect of KWS. Kochuri and Alur Dom remain our favorite breakfast on our Sunday morning escapades. From the food at KFC to the forever popular hot plate of momos, we ‘have’ them all. Literally.
KWS without food is like “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing.”

We try to present to you a glimpse of what the experience of KWS is all about. It will not be incorrect to call us a group of insane individuals with sane ideas about life, friendship, romance and most importantly, photography. We welcome you to join us and be a part of this experience. Come, see our world. Come, join our family of dedicated photography enthusiasts. Come, experience the difference...
Post your pictures from the weekend shoots; suggest the next week’s venue and even plan a small weekend photographic trip! Any discussion to do with photography in general and Kolkata in particular is welcome. Please refrain from posting pictures from your private trips
Read The Rules Below Before You Join:
•All members need to participate in the weekend shootout. But then all will not be able to make due to other priorities of theirs, thus each member need to attend atleast one shootout per month.
•In a month we will have at least two shootouts, max four.
•Shootout will be on Saturday / Sunday / any holiday of that week, so we will plan the same in the running week. By Thursday of that week, we will finalize the location.
•Shoots may not be necessarily within the city. We may go out even, nearby the city.
•No members will be allowed to post any other pics other than weekend shootout shots in the pool. If any members who want to post something not related to weekend shootout, can open a thread and post SMALL versions of their images.
•All shootout will have a theme / specialty / subject etc.
•Every weekend shots will be tagged with the date stamp of the DDAY and theme.
•For the first time admin will select one best photograph from the 1st weekend shootout. The shot will be placed in HALL OF FAME ( HOF ) thread.
•The HOF will be introduce two weeks after the first shootout.
•The photographer of the same shot will be the then judge and will choose the next HOF shot. The judge has to reason why s/he felt so. Judge’s decision is final.
•Incase the judge is not able to complete the selection, the admin reserves the right to select the HOF pix with reasons.
•All such activities need to be over by Friday night of the third week.
•All weeks for us starts on Friday only.
•On the third week from the shootout, we will have HOF pix in the HOF thread.
•Rules are prone to get amended / deleted on the practicality ground. Thus members are requested to point out any such impracticality in the rules.
•Last but not the least, members who does not abide the rules will be remove from the group without any intimation what so ever.
Send us a request to Join only if you adore photography and are serious enough to consider sparing a few hours of a lazy weekend on not-very-sane shoots. We would like to have more of photo-mates, not members.
