I am staying at the Baba House just off Jonker street - RM69 per room - comfortable and clean, an old chinese longhouse ~ stunning little guesthouse. ( stayed there 4/5 times already)
I know Liyin has stayed at some other backpacking places in Mallacca .....
Yonker street is a MUST on a Saturday night ... nothing like it in Malaysia .... still my favouraite place in Malaysia !!!
So I'll be there ... anyone else ??

Hi everyone,
I am new to Flickr and KL Flickr. When I saw the pictures taken during the last KL Flickr meet up, I was very impressed. I knew straightaway that I had missed out on a pure funfilled evening.
So, count me in for my first ever KL Flickr meet up. My wife wants to join in too. And if my kids don't tag along, I shall be able to offer 2 seats in my car from Taman Tun Dr Ismail (dan kawasan kawasan sewaktu dengannya) to Jonker Street and back.

1. kaz (and others), would you mind getting into the details such as meetup point (whether here in KL, or straight in malacca town), time, tentative itinerary, etc. - especially for saturday itself if we have day-trippers? thanks.
2. for those who have signed up, please note beside your name if you are driving and whether you have seats available for any of your flickr friends who are not.
3. for the suggested accommodation, do check out the baba house website. rates seem pretty good.

Kazzie,
Are we expected to make our own hotel booking or will someone make a block booking (ask for group discount) for the group once the numbers have been confirmed?
Any other hotels nearby just in case the Baba's House is full?
If it's ok with everyone else, I can volunteer to make a tentative booking for 10 rooms at Babas House. We can always cancel some rooms if we can't fill them up or if our numbers exceed 10 pax twin share those who don't mind sharing their rooms.

phew ... just come back from Kelantan .... looks like our group is growing :)
An update.
1. Where we gonna stay?
Gabra will be doing a block booking for us at the Baba house. (clean and comfy and i just love the old charm of the cosy little place) RM60 per room ~ so sharing advised to cut costs ...
If anyone knows or recommends any other place ..... please let us know....
2. When ?
Drving :Suggest we meet @ Sungei Besi toll on Serimban highway would be a good meeting place for the KL flickettes. We leave around 8am on sat morning. Trip will take 2.5 hours with one wee wee stop along the way. Head directly to the hotel, unload and unpark, meet up our SG Flickirians, grab somethig to eat and head into town. I am sure we will have enuff 'seats' in our cars.... Please indicate next to your name .... if you can offer seats in your car. Closer to the time ... we will see if we need to do extra bus seats ....
Enrick ... I trust you will coordinate the SG team
3. What are we gonna see?
Malacca has sooo many interesting sites and smells and people and and ... after 12 visits plus to Malacca - I always find something interesting to see. A more detailed itinerary will follow . But for now ... here are my thots
Saturday 28th April
7:45am - meet at Sungei besi toll plaza
8am - 11am - travel down
11am - 1pm Shooting. ( we head around harmony, jonker and blacksmiths roads .... loads of little lanes and shops in that area)
1pm - Lunch ....baba-nyonya lunch ...somewhere off Jonker street .... for the life of me .. i dont know the name .. but have eaten there about 5 times ... the chicken ponteh is a killer ... yummmmy
2pm or there about - head down to the town square, A Famosa, st Pauls ... gosh ... endless photo opps.
5pm - early dinner for day trippers ..... overnighters who can wait for a jonker street market munch out can wait abit later.
5pm - 8pm - free and easy ... ( official tourguides resting and bath time )
8pm - very late - Jonker street market , dinner
and even later ..... free and easy or easy and free .....
Sunday 29th April
Sunday 9am ~ breakfast ... ( not recomended at the baba house .... unless they have done something seriously to improve the chicken sausages and army style scrambled eggs.... no wonder breakie is free ...)
SOOO .. breakie at Cafe 111 or another little cafe that i recently found ...
10am - hit the streets .... or down to the jetty to book a river cruise ...
(last time was RM10 per person.... not 100% of increased fare)
12am ... lunch ~ we will find something along the river ... some lovley little cafe's and side walk resturants comig up
1pm - 3pm and Harmony street shoot out .... Bukit China cemetry for the brave ones....
Stop for Famous Malacca CENDOL .... extra yummmyyyy
3 pm or later ... check out , say good bye to our SG gang and head home ... :)
These are only suggested shooting places .... we have not covered the portuguese settlement ... which may make stunning sunset shots .... and great seafood ... But I think for our first trip .. let's stick to the town and Jonker street market.
Any suggestions, comments ... idea's .. please throw them at me ...

I'll drive if there is a need for extra place if not I'll ask a ride to anyone willing to spare one for a share in tolls and fuel :) Baba's house sounds nice. So we meeting somewhere in kl and head as a convoy or meet there, I'm not familiar with the streets of melaka.

I may go via ELITE highway to Nilai so will not be able meet at Sg Besi tol unless someone needs to be picked up in that area. We can meet up again at Air Keroh R&R (the one with the jejantas) just before the Air Keroh exit. Not too familiar with streets of Malacca so will need a guide from the tol.
Can you also indicate next to your name if you require your own room or willing to share.

Latest on Baba House:
They are offering RM59 nett for the Standard room and RM75 nett for the double (twin) room WITH breakfast. I am waiting to see how much less we can get WITHOUT breakfast. They MAY knock off a few RM more but not much I think.
I need to get back to them by monday on how many Std and how many Twin rooms we need. I would appreciate if those going to Malacca can let me know over the weekend. Can flickrmail me.

so for people going to the meet in malacca, is this your first time? if not, how long ago was your last trip? what did you do there? and what do you expect to see (and eat!) this time around?
btw kazz, was looking through the tentative itinerary and thought it might be better to find a nice place to meet and greet just as soon as you arrive - well like our usual meetups anyway. it would give a chance for folks to cool down, get to know each other (especially as we're expecting SG folks as well) and probably have some lunch first before heading out.
did a little search, and found this guy's photostream. his sets of malacca looks pretty extensive.
