About Kinabatangan River (Sungai Kinabatangan)

Photos from the Kinabatangan River, which is the largest river in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, the mouth of which lies near Sandakan. It is ont of the last remaining enclaves of lowland/riverine tropical rainforest in Sabah, if not the last. Much of the lowland rainforest of Sabah has been decimated in the last few decades to make way for oil palm plantations. Finally the Sabah government is realizing the eco-tourism potential of rainforest, but its all a bit too late, and eco-tourism itself is having an impact on the Kinabatangan rainforest (although it is much better than oil palm plantations...)
