About Keep Cats Indoors
This group is about keeping cats indoors, for their own safety and for the benefit of native wildlife.
According to the American Bird Conservancy:
"There is no question that birds are better off when cats stay indoors. Exact numbers are unknown, but scientists estimate that every year in the United States alone, cats kill hundreds of millions of birds, and more than a billion small mammals, including rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks. Feline predators include both domestic cats that spend time outdoors and stray cats that live in the wild, sometimes as part of a colony. " [link]
According to Medicine.net:
"The consensus among veterinarians and organizations such as the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is that it's healthier to keep cats indoors.
As evidence, indoor cats live longer than their outdoor counterparts. Cats who are kept indoors can reach the ripe old age of 17 or more years, whereas outdoor cats live an average of just two to five years. Another reason for indoor cats' longevity is that it's easier for their owners to identify health problems early, before they become life threatening." [link]
