24 Nov 08 - Geo-Tag Your Photos!
I encourage you to geo tag your photos (place them on the map). This is especially helpful to those who might wish to visit a site you have documented in this pool, or even for those of us who are simply curious.
It's easy to do, whether you use the Map tab within the Organizr, or the Add to Your Map link under Additional Information.

About Kansas BarnsThis flickr group is inspired by the Nov-Dec 2007 edition of Kansas Preservation, a newsletter of the Cultural Resources Division of the Kansas State Historical Society. " Historic barns are a symbol of Kansas heritage and landscape. Of the first permanent buildings that farm families constructed, barns served a variety of functions integral to the survival and success of farms. By examining the various construction techniques and materials that were used, these vernacular buildings help to tell the history of Kansas. Vacancy, development pressures from adjacent cities and towns, and demolition by corporate farms are causing the removal of barns from the state landscape at an alarming rate. The Kansas State Historical Society is undertaking a statewide survey of a sample of barns to create a multiple property nomination for the National Register of Historic Places, which will aid in the listing of barns to the Register..." The Kansas Preservation Alliance has placed Kansas Barns on its 2007 list of Kansas' Most Endangered Historic Places. The KPA has announced a focus on our disappearing rural heritage, inviting their readers to become advocates for historic preservation in their communities. Let's take this one little step to document the Kansas barns we see around us, whether they be new or old, in disrepair or preserved, rural or surrounded by urban development. They are part of our heritage! RULES?: No, no rules; just a couple of requests: if you haven't done so already, please add kansas and barn to your tags; some location information is helpful; better yet, place the barn on the map. |
