About K-Vans & Keitora
Hello and welcome to the group for images of Kei Vans & Keitora.
A majority of the vehicles are of Japanese origin as they are built to Kei (Keijidosha) regulations that dictate the dimensions and engine size (660cc) of a vehicle, the regulations have been adapted over the years but at the moment the maximum body width is 1480mm and the maximum length is 3400mm.
The definition of Van for this group is from a British perspective, referring to commercial vehicles. The passenger versions of the vans are welcome within the group. Most Kei Vans have a Forward Control(cab over) body style where the driver sits above the front axle, this maximises the load space load space but since most of older vehicles have flat noses the driver can expect a visit from the pain fairy if an accident happens. Newer vehicles have some extra length up front to help absorb forces in the event of a collision.
Keitora is a Japanese term for the pick-up truck versions of the vans.
Conversions of passenger cars to vans are also welcome to be submitted to the group, just as long as it's based on a Kei car. The conversions are refered to as Walkthrough Vans, as it appears you can walkabout in them although not very far.
There are many incarnations of various Kei Vans throughout the world so vehicles built under licence such as the Piaggio Porter ( based on the Daihatsu Hijet), Bedford Rascal (based on the Suzuki Carry) and the Chinese Wuling LZW 6330 (based on the Mitsubishi Minicab). There are several other names far too many to list and not all known to me.
In regards to submissions engine size is not important as many international version have more than 660cc as long as it's Kei sized and a van or truck it is welcome.
Anyhoo that's the end of the description, cheerio.
