The Juba Media Collective is devoted to the development and promotion of media in southern Sudan and committed to connecting media to the economic and social realities of everyday life in the region. We envision an organic media reflective of and connected to people's struggles, desires, conflicts and hopes. We believe media can contribute to processes of democratization and to this end, we are dedicated to empowering and mentoring Sudanese voices marginalized from national and global media-making. To this end, we will initiate and sponsor multiple initiatives, including oral history projects, educational forums, small media productions, and more.
We envision Flickr helping Juba Media Collective create and preserve an evolving media archive as South Sudan embarks on the journey of formal independence on July 9, 2011.
We will also continue to document the organizational development and projects of the Juba Media Collective in coming months and years.
Please join us in documenting everyday life during these ordinary and extraordinary times in South Sudan and beyond!
