About JewelBit on Flickr
Welcome to JewelBit on Flickr!
JewelBit on Flickr is a launching pad for a free, interactive website community (due to launch in the early months of 2009) that will cater to the support, inspiration, advancement, and promotional needs of professional Goldsmiths, Silversmiths, Jewellery Designers, Jewellers/Jewelers, Artistic Metal Workers/Sculptors, Lapidarists, and students pursuing these trades.
JewelBit.com will offer forums, contests, professional trouble-shooting advice/tips, and a peer managed list of resources for galleries, photographers, contests, events, etc. besides being a venue to professionally showcase work to an international client base! Each member will have their own gallery and the ability to list personal events, etc. All of these services will be offered free of charge to make for a dynamic, exciting and successful community.
GROUP GUIDELINES--Please Read**
All submissions to both JewelBit on Flickr and JewelBit are subject to the approval of the administration in order to maintain professional integrity. It will be announced shortly on JewelBit on Flickr when JewelBit.com is accepting submissions.
JewelBit appreciates all level, skill and medium of works submitted, but in order to maintain the above mentioned objectives of the group, we ask that all work submitted be of a professional nature fitting to that of the aforementioned Industry Professional (to the open-minded discretion of the administration and peers):
1/Properly lighted/focused/proportioned, and uncluttered photography is a must! The essence of amazing work can be lost entirely with poor photography! Bad photos, or pics that do not do a piece of jewellery justice will be removed. Do your photos properly capture your talent? If not, take new pics and re-submit.
2/ JewelBit focuses on more "traditional" methods used in Goldsmithing/Lapidary/Metal Work (but not necessarily "traditional" work produced via these methods.) Some beading work may be appropriate with these guidelines in mind, but chances are, if you are someone who's work focuses on beading, resin, or non-traditional techniques/materials, there's a better venue for you somewhere else. We're open, but honestly ask yourself some questions before submitting work.
3/ We've all made a band ring or set an oval amethyst cab for a school project....It's honestly neither interesting or informative to your peers or your potential client base to post these pics :) That's not to say that simple work can't be excellent--post away--But, think about it before submitting such work--what separates your band ring from everyone else's....
4/ Constructive criticism is important for the growth and contemplation of any professional. In the best world, a comment is meant to help. Take it with a grain of salt and be the better for it. But rudeness/aggression WILL NOT be tolerated at the discretion of those involved. Please inform the admin asap and the issue will be dealt with accordingly.
