About Fountains of Japanese Shrines & Temples
This group is dedicated to purification fountains--known as chozuya (手水舎), suibansha (水盤舎), or temizuya--found on the grounds of temples and shrines in Japan. They are part of what is known as mitarashi (御手洗). Tsukubai (蹲踞) and hishaku (柄杓) photos are also welcome.
These fountains, aside from having spiritual and cultural significance, can also be quite aesthetically pleasing. The designs can be very unique and may vary greatly from place to place. I encourage anyone to add their photos so others can enjoy them. If possible, please include where you shot the photo in the title, tags, or caption.
RULES
1. Photos must have been taken in Japan
2. Photos must be of a fountain (or something quite similar), obviously
3. Nothing obscene or vulgar, please
4. If possible, please include WHERE the photo was taken.
5. Please limit your photos to temple & shrines, although others in the same spirit are also acceptable--Ive seen some nice ones at Japanese castles, for example. This isn't a modern art group, so please keep that in mind.
