About Jan Snoeck

The Dutch sculptor Jan Cornelis Snoeck was born on 5 March 1927 to Rotterdam He mainly works in ceramics, but makes also paintings, graphics and rugs, in his studios in the Netherlands and France. During the opening of large Jan Snoeck exposition in museum Beelden aan Zee in Scheveningen NL in 2007, he got royal distinctions. Jan was appointed till Knight to the Order of the Dutch Lion by the loco mayor of the Hague.

The ceramic sculptures of Jan Snoeck are almost common in the Dutch cities. A large number of squares, ponds and parks are enriched with the colorful accents of his sculptures. Often the images of Snoeck’s sculptures are basic human and animal forms, sitting, lying or running with enlarged heads and noses. Sometimes he makes ceramic pillars on which by means of figures a story is told. Snoecks modeled figures seem to appear from a childish phantasy. Mostly they are yet recognizable, sometimes the artist has given a free interpretation of the reality. Man is a returning theme in the work of Snoeck.
