About Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

The Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is part of Gateway National Recreation Area. It's one of the best places in NYC to observe birds, especially migrating species.

Visit the National Parks of New York Harbor Conservancy site to read more, including this bit about Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge: "The refuge's 9,155 acres contain diverse habitats including salt marsh, upland field and woods, several fresh and brackish water ponds and an open expanse of bay available for exploration."

According to the National Park Service, Jamaica Bay is the largest natural open space in New York City, at approximately 32 square miles and over 13000 acres.

Enjoy!
