Overview :
over the years i've met many, many people who have been to an art school but didn't want to be restricted in terms of what they create or be forced to paint abstractly ... yet these people ended up teaching themselves to draw and paint during the years following their graduation. nearly all have claimed their school training a complete waste of time and money ( never having been trained i personally have no way of knowing ). you might want to read ''Why Art Cannot Be Taught'' to get a historical perspective of how we came to this point, so far from the old masters training - this book, along with ''Art Subjects: Making Artists in the American University'', helped me understand why these stories were so common
