About Winter in Majorca

In the beginning of February, Mallorca dresses with light and colour. The "Almendros" (almond trees) are in bloom, a fact that marks the beginning of mallorquin spring. An estimated of 7 million trees make the island look as if covered with frost. It lasts approximately 3 weeks, and is a spectacular sight.

The spectacular beauty of blossomed almond trees has reached a level of importance in Majorca that local authorities use this fact (unpredictable in time) as a claim to visit the island.

Marratxí, Bunyola or Sóller are some of the zones that have a bigger amount of almonds.

The harvest of the almonds is usually made during summer, as it always has been made by local "pagesos" with long wooden sticks for shaking the higher branches of the trees so the almonds fall down into a canvas placed at the feet of the tree.
In this group we hope to show photos of how this island is typically summer in winter.
