My feelings exactly. I'm honestly surprised that people go to the trouble of adding a dSLR photo to their phone just to post it on Instagram.
I've taken to checking out Eye'em, iPhoneart and Pixels at an Exhibition instead for examples of great iPhoneography.

The only two things I hate about this app are that people use DSLR photos and that theres no Ipad app.

Sounds like some people need to get their panties out of a punch.
It's a photo sharing program, I share iPhone shots, Dslr, 35mm, polaroids, instax and more types of film on my stream. None of
My followers complain and they often lead to discussions about other forms of photography including tips and tricks about the medium that shot was taken in.

It's not that it's unfair, it's just uninteresting.

Totally agree. Not that it's unfair, but that it's pointless.
The charm of instagram is that it's intended for instant images made with a point and shoot phone camera. "I was there, and here's my snapshot with minimal editing to prove it."
IG = Instagram. Instant Gratification.

I find it pointless to use iPhone apps on DSLR or other ones besides the iphone (or other mobile cameras). And the original unretouched iPhone photo must be good in the first place!

I think, you should post a rule, about the usage of Itouch / Iphone camera instead of professional, DSLR or whatever you call it.
But if you're a real Instagram lover, you shouldn't be worried about quality, pixels and etc...in fact, you should be worried who are posting with DSLR.
My own opinion: Instagram is what matters! no the way you achieve a shot....
Just a friendly opinion :D

You're shooting with an iPhone 4 and I'm only using a 3GS... UNFAIR! And my poor friend who's using her 3G, while you use your fancy iPhone 4... TOTALLY UNFAIR!!
Seriously, I could care less what hunk of plastic and glass anyone uses. Really? It's about the hardware? And here I thought it was all about the image someone manages to get. If it's awesome, interesting, or engaging in some way, I don't care how someone got it (which hardware) or where they share it (flickr, instagram, pic plz, etc). I'm just happy to see it. It's not about the equipment, it's what you do with it. Low res, high res... I've seen great examples of both.
These contentions people make about dslr shots (what about p&s or my crappy Polaroid digital camera from 1999?) stepping on the intended use of Instagram ("it's unfair!") are so silly. Lighten up people...
People would do well to be less exclusionary and more open... especially when it comes to matters of creativity, tools used, etc. Always. It really broadens the possibility that you get to see something really cool that someone created.

instagram "iPhone" app....geddit?
DSLR users who would go through all that trouble obviously want to be better than the iPhone users...honestly it doesn't matter what you use if your photo is crappy then either way it's gonna be crappy.
That's why Hipstamatic is much better. No adding on existing photos.

No, they obviously want to share an image they took. (On Instagram)
And yes, Hipstamatic is the answer to all of photography. Always. For everything.

I wouldn't love Instagram any less if it would only post photographs that were taken within the app only.
I wouldn't love Instagram any less if it would if it would automatically tag images that were not taken within the app.
I wouldn't love Instagram any less if it would automatically tag images that were edited using other iPhone apps.
I wouldn't love Instagram any less if it would only post unedited images, straight from the iPhone camera. (That would be my favored direction - no filters, no edits, no outside applications: just straight photography.)
But it does none of those things, and I love it anyway. I don't think of it as anything more than a way to share photographs with (mostly) people whose work I like, regardless of how those images were made. And, when I take an exceptional image with my Canon T2i, I might even post it!
And that's because I see it as a photosharing app for the iPhone, no more, no less.

I watched an interview with the 2 founders of Instagram on Tech Crunch TV last week, and they talked about their vision of Instagram as a platform for sharing the moment.
I think my own distaste with seeing dSLR photos is twofold: they're not spontaneous (check out demo.instagram.com/ and watch geotagged photos roll in as they're taken to see how cool it can be), and they don't help me learn anything about being a better iPhoneographer.
The latter is my own business. I really like seeing people who are better than me with their iPhone, it's a great way to learn. But the former is the vision of the people who created the platform, although, the Internet is full of cases where users decided to use technology differently than the creators intended.
Anyway, however I happen to feel about it personally, I'm sure as poop not going to lay down any hard and fast rules for the group. There's over 2700 people sharing beautiful photography in here, that's just awesome.

I agree in general, but then it's each to his/her own. Personally, i only post shots taken from my lowly ipod touch.
