About In Search Of Che Guevara
This group is based on photos of "Che" Guevara found anywhere & everywhere in the world. This was not pre-planned but as I started shooting internationally I kept finding more and more photos of Che throughout the world thus accumulating a unique collection.
I would like to think that Ace Preston's camera is also influenced by "El Che" as he evolved to Social Photography (The Photographer as a Revolutionary).
I also think of those whom "Che" influenced like Salvador Ayende when his Marxist regime in Santiago De Chile was being bombed he stood alone with an AK-47 given to him as a gift by his friend Fidel Castro..surrounded by tanks on his palace he shot himself.. September 1973
On my person as in my soul is a note:
•As quoted in The Nuclear Deception : Nikita Khrushchev and the Cuban Missile Crisis (2002) by Servando Gonzalez, p. 111]
•Variant translation: "If the missiles had remained we would have used them against the very heart of America including New York. We must never establish peaceful coexistence. In this struggle to the death between two systems we must gain the ultimate victory. We must walk the path of liberation even if it costs millions of atomic victims."
THE FOLLOWING COMMENT IS MADE BY LANCE WILSON (SURFER) ON CHE at his personal request..
"No matter where I surf in the world Che Guevara's image is observed everywhere. It is tattooed on Mike Tyson's body. It is wore on t-shirts by people who have no concept of the man. It is capitalized and exploited by the very same institutions "Che" detested. As I got to learn more about the legend of "Che" I realize that he was perhaps the holiest of men among us. He protected the old, the weak, the poor. Fought for those who couldn't fight for themselves and believed in one's right to a speedy trail and execution.
[The situation was uncomfortable for the people and for [Eutimio], so I ended the problem giving him a shot with a .32 pistol in the right side of the brain, with exit orifice in the right temporal [lobe]. He gasped for a little while and was dead. Upon proceeding to remove his belongings I couldn't get off the watch tied by a chain to his belt, and then he told me in a steady voice farther away than fear: "Yank it off, boy, what does it matter." I did so and his possessions were now mine.
•Diary entry from Sierra Maestra on the execution of Eutimio Guerra as an anti-revolutionary spy (January 1957), quoted in Che Guevara : A Revolutionary Life (1997)]
Che told no lies and said what he meant.
His book "Guerrilla Warfare" is considered the bible for the US Army Special Forces "Green Berets". A true idealist. A medical doctor. A Basque by blood type. Like Benito Mussolini he was murdered by cowards who mutilated his body and placed it on display like some circus side-show freak. So feared in death like the great men who came before him his corpse remained hidden for years, buried in an unknown location. Even his family of orientation and procreation were persecuted afterwards.
Before his illegal execution defying the Geneva Convention he was robbed of personal belongings to include his Rolex watch by a Cuban traitor controlled by the CIA as well as the ignorance of the Bolivian Rangers. His execution read like JOHN 19:23-24 "Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my venture they do cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did."
As ironic as it seems in Bolivia today there are some who worship Che as if he were the Christ.
In the year 2000 Ernesto "Che" Guevara or even Adolf Hitler should have been voted "Man of the Century" but TIME Magazine instead gave it to Albert Einstein, a man who promoted atomic weapons (Einstein also earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 1921, an award given to Obama Hussein Barak in 2009 which goes to show what a worthless piece of trash the Nobel Peace Prize always was as well as TIME Magazine).
Che's very words from his manuel dedicated to Camilo Cienfuegos predicts and forewarns, "he now belongs to those who have yet to arrive.".
I myself am constantly reminded of him wherever I may roam. Whether I 'm surfing Mentawai Islands off the west coast of Northern Sumatra Indonisia or Tamarindo Costa Rica. I see Korda's image everywhere especially upon my Surfboard."
