WELCOME: Greetings from the Johns Hopkins University campus and WELCOME to the Inquiring Minds Flickr group , a major component of the interactive online “Inquiring Minds” site dedicated to providing up-to-date, critical information and news regarding college student mental health, general health, as well as topics related to psychology, psychiatry, and clinical research.
One large component of the site is our “Mental Notes” section, which showcases personal stories, narratives, creative writing pieces, artwork, and photography from college students, faculty members, mental health professionals, and advocates indirectly and/or directly affected by mental illness.
PHOTOS: This Flickr group is open to anyone who is interested in sharing their photos regarding mental health, mental illness, medication, college students, etc., and/or anyone who has an interest in disseminating critical mental health information, raising awareness, promoting advocacy, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness. Furthermore, you are welcome to join the group and just post on our discussion boards, meet new contacts, and review the neat photo submissions.
This group photo page will also be linked to the front page of the “Inquiring Minds” site, (via a little Flickr widget), hence your photos will be displayed to college students, including the Johns Hopkins University community, the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes students and medical staff, mental health professionals and advocates, and many more. This is a great way to show off your wonderful work, while helping advocate and raise awareness for an important cause.
Lastly, you can post as many or as little photos as you would like, per day, however they should have some relation to mental health, psychology, psychiatry. In addition, please submit respectful, appropriate photos that would be proper for this group’s cause. (Please contact me if you have questions about this!)
CONTACT: If you have any questions regarding the Flickr group, photos, and/or the Inquiring Minds main site, please feel free to e-mail me at InquiringMindsMatter@gmail.com.
You are also welcome to submit your photos (alongside a personal story, if you would like), to be posted in our "Mental Notes" section - please also contact me at InquiringMindsMatter@gmail.com regarding photo submission.
Thank you for your time.
COLLEGE MENTAL HEALTH STATISTICS:
In a 2008 study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry , based upon results from the National Epidemiologic Study on Alcohol and Related Conditions, (N=43,093), almost one-half of the college students and their non-college-attending peers interviewed met DSM-IV criteria for at least 1 psychiatric disorder in the previous year.
Overall, fewer than 25% of individuals interviewed within the study with a mental disorder sought treatment in the year prior to the survey.
