Here's a little challenge for all you seasoned veterans :)

Post a photo that looks like it could be used in an ad for a product or service. Avoid extensive editing or real logos. For great ideas, check out stock photography websites like istockphoto.com or gettyimages.com for examples.

Tell us a little about it.

Here's a reminder how to post to the assignment:
1. Become a Flickr member.

2. Take a self-portrait and upload it to your Flick account

3. On that photo's page, click the "all sizes" tab

4. Choose "Small"

5. Under the photo, it will say "Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage" - Select and copy that text.

6. Go to THIS post and in the "reply" box, paste the HTML script. Feel free to include a few comments about the shot after it.

7. Use the 'preview' function to make sure it worked, or click "post now" to submit it to the discussion!

Ultimate Slider

I had fun researching cool lighting affects. I had this crazy image in my head (so I stuck with it). I came across a DIYphotography thread with tips on circle lighting, adding a gel to your flash for a cool color (I used a flashlight), and a spot light.

gillian: i like it, in fact best pic of the day. Especially the color effects but the picture is dead center rule of thirds. You can blame david for that one...

i think with the circle lighting technique, the rule of thirds can be ignored. i like the shot a lot!

GIllian, I love them... minus feeling sick from seeing a 10-level white castle. :)

David, as far as rule-of-thirds, remember, everything in our class is a guideline, or "rule"... not necessarily a law that can't be broken :) The Rule of Thirds is just one design element of many that can be used to compose the photo. For example, here Gillian has used color & contrast to differentiate her subject from the background (a warm vs. cold contrast - yellow vs blue); shadows give texture; the "patties" give a sense of repetition, and the end of the counter/table creates a real line along the bottom third line. This is exactly what I want our Fundamentals students to be doing... analyzing photo composition! Trying to find out what makes a great photo better than another. In this respect, it's great to see you analyzing, David!

looks to be more of a bean burger to me. lol. The 2nd week class was by far very imformative and the way my mind works the more i understand how a camera works the better i will be with it. This rule applies the M16a1...lol

smirnoff5

This is my advertisment for Smirnoff. This bottle is different because the inside is coated with a mirror finish - a chemistry project from college. The bottle was shot inside my new DIY lightbox using my 50mm. I will post a picture of my setup later on.
