A fresh look at some old places (a group admin) says:
24 Dec 09 - There are still places in the British isles where very few people have set foot, they are remote wild and dangerous. The Island of North Rona is 44 miles away from the nearest inhabited land, Stack Armin in the St Kilda group has only one verified ascent in 1969 (later than the first ascent of Mt Everest). Others still can only be reached by a skilled Climber such as the Inaccessible pinnacle on the isle of Skye or Pillar rock in the lake district. This group is for these places...

About Inaccessible places British isles

Pictures of places which are extremely difficult to reach either by climbing, sea or extreme remoteness.

I don't mind saying that I have got more and more interested in having my adventures here at home as I have less and less money to go anyewhere else. This has led me on a search for extreme remoteness, wilderness and other adventure here in these Islands. I have to say I have not been disapointed. Britain can often be viwed as being pretty, rather than spectacular and rural, rather than wild. Many people come to see the cultural sights but I would claim that our wild scenery can stand on a par with anywhere else in the world.

Examples include

Stack Armin and Stack Lee in the St Kilda Group - These two giant ocean stacks way out in the North Atlantic are tall enoguh to be classified as Marilyns in their own right reaching close to 200m, battered by ferocious storms there has been only one verified sucsesful ascent in modern times they are very difficult to acsess, extremely difficult to land a boat on, and incredibaly dificult to climb.

The Inaccesible Pinnacle on the Isle of Skye - Hours of walk in, almost 1000m of ascent from from sea level, a difficult scramble and then an exposed rock climb needing ropes and other equipment to reach the summit. (inaccesible is in the name!)

The sub arctic high plateu of the Cairngorms - The largest area above 4000ft in Britain, snow often lies here all year round temperatures are commonly below 0 and has reached -27 degrees C also home to the greatest ever recorded british wind speed of 172Mph. Adding to this it is large remote and empty and contains 4 out of 5 of Britians highest peaks.

Or how about 'Out sack'in the Shetland Isles, as far north as Britain goes it is far closer to the arctic circle than it is to London and on a similar latitude to alaska, almost 800 miles north of the Scilly Isles, the furthest south Britain goes (Which is similar to the distance between Paris and North Africa!)
