An Earth so diverse... What on Earth are we looking at when we look at
nature? Something separate from us, something removed? Or something
of which we’re a part? That is the original paradox for our species,
a question that’s been in the back of our collective mind since our
earliest ancestors climbed down from the trees and began the process
of confusing our relationship with everything else. In the last few decades
we have grownlarge enough… all of a sudden we are big enough
to kill ourselves and nature. By slowly killing the nature we are disturbing
our climate, we alter every territorial force: wind speed, evaporation,
rainfall. The world is becoming less reliable, more variable. And that will
eventually alter our perception of nature. It’s time to change our relationship
to the Earth… To do so would require understanding just how beautiful
the Earth still is, how gorgeous it remains even in its defaced state.

Uma Terra tão diversa... O que olhamos na Terra quando nós olhamos para a
natureza? Algo que nos separa de nós mesmos, algo que foi removido? Ou
algo do que nós somos uma parte? Este é o paradoxo original para da nossa
espécie, uma questão que tem estado no fundo da nossa mente coletiva, desde
os primórdios dos nossos antepassados que desceram das árvores e
começaram o processo de confundir nosso relacionamento com tudo mais.
Nas últimas (poucas) décadas nós crescemos bastante em número…
e de repente somos suficientemente grandes em número para matar a nós
mesmos e a natureza. Por matar a natureza lentamente nós estamos
interferindo no nosso clima, nós alteramos cada força territorial: velocidade do
vento, evaporação, pancadas de chuva. O mundo torna-se menos confiável,
mais variável. E isso eventualmente alterará nossa percepção de natureza.
É tempo de mudar nosso relacionamento com a Terra… Então, para obtermos
isso, nos exigiria somente o entendimento de como a Terra ainda é bela,
como ela permanece deslumbrante, mesmo em seu estado desfigurado.

Update

Just while we get the set up in order, the admins don't have the time to have too much dialogue with everyone. We hope this can change, but right now we are laying down the ground rules; thinking of the future; working out strategies etc. Basically, making this the best it can be!!

We have already had a few bad reactions from people whose pictures we have removed. PLEASE try and put yourself in our position. The admins here are all nice people and we don't want to hurt anyones feelings; but hard decisions have to be made. Please let us stress how much pressure we feel when we have to make judgement calls on photos that people are obviously proud of.

For this reason, all photos will be deleted by an anonymous faceless entity called 'ITSONG Admin'!! The Admin team after discussions with other key anonymous (but very experienced) judges will choose which photos go and which photos stay. In this way you can't start hating any of us personally!! Can you?!!

Welcome to the "In The Style Of National Geographic" themed group. We want to start a group where we can pool photos that are in the National Geographic style.

We want to keep this group small, friendly, intimate, intelligent but...yes; elite!! The admins here feel we can all learn so much from each other, without the distraction of crass, boring, uninspired photos that so many groups on flickr get overwhelmed with.

Needless to say we want this 'pool' to become a repository of the absolute best pictures. Pictures that create an emotional response. Images that send shivers up your spine. Captures that make you want to be a better person!! Compositions that you have to keep coming back to, cos you just can't believe the inherent beauty captured there!!

Are we asking a lot? Yes we are; but we think the results could be fantastic. Please, please join us!!

Photo Posting Procedure
We hate talking about this topic but to preserve some order and not overflow the image pool here is the most important requirement.

Please only post ONE PHOTO per day. We wanna give everyone a chance to have their photo on the group's homepage. Slow and wise for everybodys appreciation.

I would hope to eventually view and comment on the majority of photos in the pool and part of the idea for this group is that we all become familiar with each others photos. That is why we must stay a very small group, and also why we must just contribute a small number of pictures a day.

I feel there is some real 'raw' talent in this group as well as 'more refined' talent built up over many years!! Lets all share our ideas by commenting on each other pictures and become a breeding tank for brilliant pictures!! I for one have so much to learn from many of the members of this group.

Of course, there are some members who are way ahead of the game, but hopefully you guys can share some of your special tips acquired 'over the eons' in perilous locations all around the globe!!

I hope you agree with my ideals for this group!! (or some of them!!) If not; prepare to be EXTERMINATED!!! ;-)
