About I love my Pit Bull!

It is so great to see so many sites for Pit Bulls on Flickr. This site seeks to supplement others with a bit of an activist twist to it in hopes of spreading the truth about Pits! Please join in with your stories, experiences, and rants regarding our misunderstood buddies! Feel free to include resources and links you have found useful! Thanks! (:

Unfortunately, Pit Bulls get a bad rap in our society and across the globe. Any responsible owner who is lucky enough to care for a Pit Bull knows that this stereotype is false. Their demeanor, like children and other pets, depends on their owner. Pit Bulls are gentle, loving, devoted and intelligent dogs who will lick--not bite--a stranger when given an opportunity to do so.

This group is a chance for us to display photos of our sweet creatures and hopefully deflate some of the negative stigma attached to Pit Bulls through our stories and pictures.

It is especially important to educate others and dispell the harmful myths about Pit Bulls, since more and more states and counties are banning the breed across the board. This has left many Pit owners with few options--move, pay a fine, or purchase the extremely costly insurance required to maintain their ownership. Even then, the dogs may be removed from their homes (and often killed!) if other people determine the dogs to act in an "aggressive" manner.

In addition, many shelters across the country are overflowing with unwanted Pit Bulls, many of which were severely abused and managed to survive, only to face discrimination by potential future dog owners. Despite the abuse they tolerated, almost all Pits maintain a positive and loving demeanor, eager to please their owners and anyone else willing to give them a chance!

My pup was abused, his ears cut off with scissors (probably with no numbing solution of any kind), beaten and starved. He is sweet, smart, and loves to lick anyone and everyone!

I hope you will share your photos and stories about your Pit Bull here!!
