About 粋 Iki (The Fantastic In The Familiar)
"The viewpoint of the camera is nothing special; it is that of our own absentminded eyes as we wander through familiar places doing ordinary things-waiting for a bus or driving on an errand." (Robert Venturi).
This group is focused on a way of experiencing our environment and all of it's contradictions. Images that we ignore because of their familiarity or reject because of their banality. Things that are at once well known and remote, half remembered and forgotten. Daido Moriyama meets Stephen Shore meets William Eggleston meets... You.
An iki thing/situation would be simple, improvised, temporary, romantic, ephemeral, original, inconspicuous, etc.

An iki person would be audacious, chic, tacit, sassy, unselfconscious, calm, indifferent, unintentionally coquettish, open-minded, restrained, etc.

Most Importantly...
An iki thing/person/situation cannot be perfect, artistic, arty, complicated, gorgeous, intentionally coquettish, or kawaii (cute). They should always have a natural quality as something seen with your eyes and not through a lens.
Please don't post macros, closeups with too tight framing or heavily photoshopped images. They should include enough of their environment to give the image a context, no abstractions. This also includes fisheye lenses, multiple images (diptychs etc.), double exposures or images that rely on processing just for effect. Any images that include these qualities/effects will be removed.
The focus is on seeing the world around us and not the act of taking a picture. These images should never feel overworked or contrived. They are not surreal but see the fantastic in the ordinary, recapturing the overfamiliar.
This group will be moderated. If your image is removed it is not a reflection on the quality of your work. Just that it didn't meet the criteria for the pool. Please check the Group description.
