About The Institute for Distributed Creativity
This Flickr group aims to connect subscribers to the mailing list of The Institute for Distributed Creativity (distributedcreativity.org). It strives for concentrated debate on the shifting paradigm of new media without going into the trap of homogenized special interest groups online in which disparities don't surface. Such "plural monocultural" forums can be useful research contexts at times but all too often conflicts related to factors such as race and economic differences are rendered invisible.
Our collaborative research works to integrate expert culture and public debate in the attempt to cross the Great Wall surrounding new media discourses.
Within its larger topical orientation on media theories and the social implications of the Internet, emerging wireless technologies, cultural production, education, and politics, recent message threads have focused on situated technologies, architecture, curating new media art, the politics of FLOSS (Free, Libre and Open Source Software), media art education, digital rights management, race and ethnicity online, the future of the Internet, the precariousness of contemporary labor, remix culture, micro-media histories, and radical media activism.
