Available communications are at an all time high.

Between our internet, cellular, and media communications we are quickly becoming the global society that John Lennon asked you to imagine in the song of the same name.

The borders are finally crumbling.

However, war and tension between our governments are at an all time high.

Why?

All governments rely on the sustainment of borders.

The sustainment of government-careers and separatist-ideologies rely upon societal-walls that are meant to keep us - you and I - apart.

Yet, here we are - you and I - in the midst of a communications revolution.

Citizens nearly everywhere are now able to communicate with people half a world away just as easily as they are able to communicate with someone half a kilometer away, and it is beautiful.

Yet this scares our governments more than any other imagined entity evoked (or provoked) by them. If the walls fall. . . if we find our commonalities and comprehend, understand, and accept our differences, our governments will no longer be able to sanction enemies for us to hate, nor ideas for us to fear, and they will be forced to interact with a global union of friends that are tired of hating one another. . . fed up with being told what we need to fear.

So the purpose of this group is to stimulate friendship and communication with those that live beyond our borders, whatever borders those may be. Use Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, or any other way you can, and simply find yourself a friend (or, hopefully, many) that live a world or two away. . . and introduce them to your other friends so that they may befriend them as well.

Use this group, or any and all of the World Friends groups, to find yourself friends in other regions.

If you are multilingual, please - by all means - help translate for others. Teach languages... share languages... and use them to promote growth, partnership, and alliance (and reliance) within friendship.

Well-interpreted communication is more necessary today than even the best of the "Green" movements or "Peace" rallies... we need to learn to talk to one another before we can make any significant impact on our environment or own sociological evolution.

Simply put, we can make a monumental difference by creating friendship.

It's really as simple as that.
