About Hotel Eden
Hotel Eden is about photomanipulations, collage, and assemblages influenced by the great American artist, Joseph Cornell. Altered books are welcome, too, but because there are so many groups dedicated to ATCs, we're going to exclude them for a while.
A note on dioramas: Using a toy, or model, is acceptable, but any image in which an object becomes the main subject, as opposed to a symbol, wont make it past the queue.
All images should have the appearance of existing in the physical world.
Please post only your own work, not photographs of someone else's.
This slide show from the Smithsonian is an excellent intro to Cornell's work.
Oddly enough, 'Cornell never considered himself a surrealist; although he admired the work and technique of Surrealists like Max Ernst and René Magritte, he disavowed the Surrealists' "black magic," claiming that he only wished to make white magic with his art.' Today, the lines are blurred and he's considered one of America's great surrealists. (Labels. Go figure.)
