About Hooray 4 Fun!!!
Drummers in Exile is a weekly drum/dance/poi/fun circle in downtown Toronto, Ontario Canada.
Queen's Park (North Lawn) 7-11pm every
Tuesday
except: The 2nd Tuesday of the month in Trinity-Bellwoods Park.
"What is it?"
For those unfamiliar with the original Trinity-Bellwoods phenomenon, it really was an amazing thing to be a part of. It was an free-spirited urban festival that sprung up every Tuesday night. It gave off such a potent, positive vibe that anyone within earshot was drawn to its energy. It exemplified the rich diversity of the city with peoples of various backgrounds adding their own cultural spices to this magical musical gumbo. Hundreds of people. 6 year olds and 60 year olds drumming and dancing side by side. Cheers, chants, fiddles, clarinets layered over dozens of pounding drums. Every night was different. Special. Indispensable.
Some of us drummed and danced and poi'd in Trinity-Bellwoods park for as many years eight years, but finally last summer it just got to large, too loud and too late for a Tuesday night ad the police were forced to shut us down. Disappointed but not discouraged, some of us relocated to Queen's Park this summer for a more melodic, more intimate jam. By the end of the summer we realized that our gathering required at least a little organization, and subsequently we ended up booking The Kathedral for every Tuesday night this winter. But just until the spring weather warms up and then its back to the great outdoors!
So yeah, we're friendly affiliation of drummers, dancers, poi-yeurs, artists, musicians and music lovers who all agree to congregate each Tuesday and make our own fabulous party. Come play with us!
