About Birds - Honeyeaters, Flycatchers, Thrushes, Whistlers & Allies

Objectives of the group - To present an interesting, varied collection of high quality bird images belonging to the relevant family as described below.

This is an ornithology group with an emphasis on bird behaviour, identification and distribution. We may also improve our bird photography.

Bird Families in this group :

* Meliphagidae - Honeyeaters and Chats, birds with brush tongues for collecting nectar, which forms an important part of their diet, although some are also insectivorous.

* Dicruridae - Drongoes, Monarch Flycatchers, Paradise Flycatchers, Fantails and Magpie Larks (Pee-Wees).

* Muscicapidae - Thrushes, Blackbirds.

* Pachycephalidae & Cinclosomatidae - Whistlers, Shrike Thrushes, Quail Thrushes, Whipbirds, Sitellas.

* Tyrannidae - The tyrant flycatchers are a family of passerine birds which occur throughout North and South America. They are considered the largest family of birds on Earth, with more than 400 species. They are the most diverse avian family in every country in the Americas, except for the United States and Canada. As could be expected from a family this large, the members vary greatly in shape, patterns, size and colours. Some Tyrant flycatchers superficially resemble the Old World flycatchers. They are members of suborder Tyranni (suboscines) that do not have the sophisticated vocal capabilities of other songbirds.

Hummingbirds belong to the family Trochilidae and do not belong here, there are many other groups for them.

Please note that Quality is important to the group, meaning distant views of a bird without anything to recommend it, will be viewed critically. Please also note that multiple versions of the same or similar subject will be carefully scrutinised for usefulness by your group Admins and may not all be accepted
