About Homo Magi

According to Wikipedia:

Homo is the genus that includes modern humans and their close relatives. The genus is estimated to be between 1.5 and 2.5 million years old. All species except Homo sapiens (modern humans) are extinct. Homo neanderthalensis, traditionally considered the last surviving relative, died out 30,000 years ago while a recent discovery suggests that another species, Homo floresiensis, may have lived as recently as 12,000 years ago. (Wikipedia: Homo)

The Magi (singular Magus, from Latin, via Greek μάγος ; Old English: Mage; from Old Persian maguš) were a tribe from ancient Media, who — prior to the absorption of the Medes into the Persian Empire in 550 BC — were responsible for religious and funerary practices. Later they accepted the Zoroastrian religion, not without changing the original message of its founder, Zarathustra (Zoroaster), to what is today known as Zurvanism, which would become the predominant form of Zoroastrianism during the Sassanid era (AD 226–650). (Wikipedia: Magi)

Homo Magi is a term to describe a sub-race of magic-using humans in the DC Universe. The Homo Magi evolved in a parallel but separate line, alongside Homo Sapiens. Homo Magi and Metahumans account for most of the superhuman abilities in the DC Universe. (Wikipedia: Homo Magi)
