About Hong Kong Nostalgia 懷舊香港
Hong Kong, Asia's "world city". Constantly changing, renewing, redeveloping and demolishing its way into the future.
This group is for you to post images of Hong Kong that are in any way 'nostalgic'- be it traditional cha chan tengs, street markets, or crumbling old council flats. Ah Sums and Ah Baks, cheerful old market sellers, a big hearty bowl of wonton mein. Egg tarts, Shek Kip Mei, Mui Wo. Chinese opera, Temple Street, Hollywood Road. Yau Ma Tei Police Station, Victoria prisn, the old Central Star Ferry Pier, Noonday Gun, people doing Tai Chi in Victoria Park. Traditional festival celebrations, the whole lot!
Feel free to interpret this theme.
But, obviously no pictures of the shiny new skyscrapers and the like.
UPDATE 23/08/10
Some clarifications on the requirements of photos in the group pool:
- Photos posted to this pool must be clearly identifiable as being taken in Hong Kong (meaning shots of objects without an identifiable link to HK will be purged).
- Please think carefully about what you post. Is it nostalgia-worthy? Does it add any value to the pool? Do I really need to post that picture of Starbucks/a banana/the interiors of a shopping mall to the pool? I've recently purged more than 500 photos because inconsiderate members have flooded the pool with batches of photographs that have no relevance to our particular group.
- As a rule of thumb, nostalgia may vary from person to person, but the main idea of THIS particular group is to capture a collective memory of Hong Kong. However we've had some fantastic contributions from members who have posted images of themselves taken in HK in the 50s through to the 80s.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
