29 Oct 11 - Congratulations! We have achieved 23 images. A great place to depict the history of this once-prominent but now-defunct motor hotel chain that was big in the Southwest during its heyday. Now there's only one still branded as a Hiway House that continues in business to this day.

About Hiway House - "Sleep Is Our Business."

The former Hiway House motor hotel chain founded by the late Del Webb in 1956. Webb, also a co-owner of the New York Yankees and founder of the Sun City retirement communities, operated the Hiway House chain until selling it in the 1960s.

The Hiway House chain would operate motor hotels in several Southwestern states including Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. The only survivor of the now-defunct operation that still carries the "Hiway House" name is located in Albuquerque, NM on Route 66 and still has the same original signage dating back to its opening in 1958.
