About Hillfields Photographers Group
From Andy McGeechan, Group Founder.
Some History
I started the group (in March 2005) Ostensibly to promote the Hillfields flats, and Hillfields as an area to live work and play (to paraphrase the old Mars bar tag line)
The first big project was "Day in the life of Hillfields or DITLOH as Jessica Pinson named it, and that took place on July 15th 2005. Although Jess took a lot of the burden in her role as the promotions officer for the area she took leave to have a baby (a delightful boy called Ben) meaning various ideas such as a web site & and an exhibition went on hold.
I eventually took the lead on the exhibition and at the present the 6 large prints are on display in the Hillfields Children's Centre in Clifton street (CV1 5GR)
The prints show around 75 images from the hundreds submitted and where edited by former member Niall and myself. There was quite a high failure rate on the Disposables due to mechanical issues but those that did make it only go to show that the best camera in the world is the one in your hand!
That leaves the web site, which was going to be hosted by Coventry Warwickshire Promotions (CWP) But whilst nothing came of it we find this thing called Flickr which enables us to do this with much more autonomy and democracy. Which brings us to today.........
We meet once a month in Hillfields in the Tenants Resource Centre on a Thursday, and our members are spread around the city of Coventry at the moment, although the foundation of it is based within Hillfields. We're always looking for new members, so if you're interested then contact Andy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/andymcgeechan/)
