08 Dec 09 - Anyone with good photos of an Historical Engineering Work, HEW for short, can post them here. There are no formal rules but an informal limit of 5 a day is suggested. If a British or Irish-born engineer was involved, photos from anywhere in the World will be very welcome in this group. The emphasis here is on civil engineering but overlaps with other disciplines are to be expected.

About Historical Engineering Works of Britain and Ireland

The Institution of Civil Engineers Panel for Historical Engineering Works (PHEW) identifies, records and promotes knowledge of works illustrative of the history and development of civil engineering and encourages excellence in the conservation of significant examples.

This group provides a home for images of the historical engineering works of Britain and Ireland.

Historical engineering works or HEWs considered to be of special merit are given a reference number by PHEW. If you have taken a picture of an engineering work, you can search the database to check if it has a number
