About Highland Historic Environment Record

The Highland Historic Environment Record (HER) is an online resource containing details about many thousands of historic and archaeological sites across Highland, with new records being added all the time. It is maintained by the Highland Council and can be viewed at her.highland.gov.uk

We welcome and encourage public contributions to our records and we are particularly on the lookout for photographs to enhance the information we hold. We hope that this group will make it easier for our users on Flickr to submit photographs for inclusion in the HER. The photos will be held in our photostream here and also downloaded for permanent inclusion in the online HER.

There are just a couple of things to bear in mind when you contribute photos to this group:

We would ask that you only upload photographs that you are happy for us to download to add to the online HER records. We will acknowledge copyright in all cases. The terms and conditions of use for the Highland HER can be viewed on our website.

Please provide as much detail as you can in your description to allow us to locate the site or building in question. If you are able to tag the photograph with the relevant HER reference number(s)(prefixed MHG) that would be wonderful. Geotagging would also be really helpful if you can do it, especially if you are reporting a site that is not in the HER currently.

This is very much an experiment for us so there may be other things that we think of as we go along. Feel free to add any comments - we are new to Flickr and may be missing something obvious! In the meantime, happy snapping!
