06 Mar 11 - I am curating this group with a particular vision in mind - sorry to those whose images I've denied. Simple nature images without the human element are likely to not be accepted. Accepted images are those which have for me the strongest emotional impact, since this group is about the emotional and spiritual world of water. Also, please keep in mind that the key word here (besides waters) is haunted. There are many beautiful joyful images out there- I am looking for mystery, darkness and depth.

About haunted by waters

Water is more than it a surface, it is another world, a double of our own where all of our teardrops flow and carry our worries and loves suspended in slow motion. The junction between these two worlds is the place where time, person and place flow from one world into the other and back again. Water is time, water is love, water is the spirit world...

I believe in erasing distinctions- I operate under the deeply held belief that there is water everywhere, coursing through the earth, water underneath everything, some vast water table holding up everything, despite what science has taught us, the earth’s plates are floating on a mantle of endless water, and inside us is this same water, coursing through us like rivers and sloughs, welling up and subsiding- as the tides of the ocean and the fluctuations of rivers change so do we, as the water flows from the earth into us and from us and out again. Veins and rivers have the same form, like the network of blue veins on a fragile white breast, this network is blue because it is water. Like the network of roots coursing water through a tree, it would surely collapse if it were not for the water within. Black water under a desert, green water moving imperceptibly slowly through a field of grass, red mineral water moving earthly elixirs to where they need to be… Sadness and happiness both bring tears, tears of blue sadness, tears of cool blue contentment. It will all work out, it will all come together to flow outward again. I believe in water.

Here is where we explore the emotional and spiritual impact of water as seen in artistic photography, the human dimension of water and the watery dimension of humanity.. The water can be a river, a lily-filled pond, a raging sea, a shallow puddle on a city street, a bathtub, a tropical backwater, a public swimming pool, a faucet... the haunting can be you, another, no one...use your imagination, feel your emotion.

“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it… I am haunted by waters.” — Norman Maclean
