A12 back stuck on body

view profile

nicolai_g  Pro User  says:

This is a new one on me: my new-style A12 back is stuck on my 203FE body. The camera functions fine: I can remove the insert with the back still stuck to the body and change film, wind the film on, shoot a roll normally, and wind it off with no problems, so it's not a body/mag sync issue. The darkslide locks the shutter when it's in, and allows it to fire when it's out.

The release switch simply won't move to the right. The back is on normally, fitted properly into the bottom hooks as usual. I tried inserting the darkslide in both orientations, as well as a darkslide from another back that goes onto and off of another body normally, with no luck.

Please help! Thanks!

If all else fails, I hope there is a Hasselblad shop near you. I can only surmise that perhaps the mechanism that keeps the back on the camera when there is no darkslide is somehow damaged and doesn't recognize that there is a darkslide inserted.

Yup, darkslide entirely in (in all orientations), tried in all crank states... From what I know, I have to agree, Bo: looks like it's shop time. :(

Nicolai, post this same issue on photo.net - - David Odess and a coupla others usually will answer - - may give you the fix for free (they did for me with a very unusual issue a year ago).

wait, I just read something about how to fix that, it was in german though.
Gonna search it and post it shortly.

Damn, it is about the lens being stuck on the body, sorry.

Ah, thanks T! I took it to a service shop, where they magically got it working in about 4 seconds (by doing what looked exactly like what I'd been trying for 2.5 weeks with no luck).

Glad you got it off Nicolai. Sometimes when that sort of thing happens a bit of pressure in the right place is usually enough. Generally pressing the back gently and firmly towards the body will relieve enough tension on the hooks in the body to allow you to release them. Glad this had a happy ending.
