About Dolls, Toys & Games by HASBROHenry and Helal Hassenfeld founded Hassenfeld Brothers in 1923. The textile remnant company also began to manufacture pencil boxes and school supplies. By the 1940s, the company was producing its first toys - doctor and nurse kits. Mr. Potato Head, purchased from inventor George Lerner in 1952, was their first toy smash hit. In 1964, they introduced G.I. Joe. They shortened their name to Hasbro Industries in 1968. Hasbro has produced other well-known toys, including My Little Pony (1983) and Transformers (1984). Hasbro bought Playschool and Milton Bradley in 1984, and with it The Game of Life, Candy Land, Twister, Chutes and Ladders and Yahtzee. They purchased Parker Brothers in 1991, acquiring the rights to Monopoly. They also bought Tonka and Kenner that year. |
