About Harsh Painting/Art Critique-Leave your feelings at the door

There is a sea of hideous art on Flickr, and it's my goal to add as little as possible to that pool. If almost-good to horrific painting makes you physically ill, this is a great place to discuss.

Constructive and scathingly honest critique is a very useful and expedient route for growth as an artist. There are quite a few exceptional painters on Flickr and my goal is to bring them all together to honestly discuss the nasty side of painting.

I would have loved to have been alive in Paris in the late 19th century to have been immersed in the revolution, camaraderie, and discussions held nightly in the cafes over absinthe. Degas was considered something of a curmudgeon by his contemporaries due in part to his stubborn refusal to compromise his views. That refusal to accept mediocrity, however, was a driving force in the quality of his work and that of his peers.

There's not enough of that on Flickr. This place seems to be all about back-slapping, congratulations, and half-hearted high-fives.

That's lame. I want to hear what's wrong with a piece of crap. I want to know what makes you nauseous when you look at bad art, and I want to discuss it freely. Sometimes fresh eyes and willingness to lay it on the line are just what it takes to reach the next level.

If you feel the same, this is the group for you.

Submit your work to the discussion forum and have at it.
