About _ Haptic Vision | Tangible Images _

"In haptic seeing, all our self rushes up to the surface to interact with another surface..." L. U. Marks, Haptic Visuality:Touching with the Eyes

This group is about exploring the visual aspects of haptic interactions, through tactile sensations that the brain/mind produces. Or visual representations of the tactual, where vision becomes touch / touch becomes vision. What the eye sees in a photograph can make the viewer feel the tactual sensations on the skin through texture, contour, angle, lighting, saturation etc. In some cases, an image can urge the viewer to touch a surface or make them recall a sense of touch from the past. Therefore 'looking' at the image itself could become a multisensory experience.

Supporting a PhD project focusing on haptic vision, images in this group's pool will be considered for a future photobook supported with theoretical framework, including essays and view-points of scholars / artists from diverse backgrounds. We will be selecting around 20 photographs from this group for this book.

This group will be curated and moderated for quality as well as suitability of the images for the theme, but please do no let this discourage you from sending your photos for consideration.

Please note, we are not looking for images that simply illustrate the act of touch. We are not after postcard-like pictures of hands touching surfaces either unless the surface evokes the haptic sense indirectly or unexpectedly.

Some examples to show what kind of images we're looking for:

sex is accident

Child's Play #1

love the danger
