07 Mar 08 - Dear Hampshire Landscape Photographers,In general the quality your photos are great.A small and easy tip to help you decide whether your photo is appropriate for this group... ask yourself this question before you post:

What is this a picture of?

If your answer is a house, a horse, a windmill, a bridge, an umbrella, a gate, a tall building etc, and your answer is not a landscape, then it is probably not the correct group for this image.

Keep posting!

About Hampshire England Landscapes

Photographs of the beautiful landscape of Hampshire, England.

Please keep the photos to show landscapes of Hampshire.

If I think it does not fit the bill then your photo will be removed with out explanation. I just don't have the time to explain. I know there are people in Flickrland who just add an image to a group just for the sake of getting some exposure. Well it ain't happening here so you've been warned! It kind of makes the reason behind of having groups pointless (rant over!) so please take your time to read the definition below.

What is a landscape photo?... as described by Wim van Velzen at www.fotografiewimvanvelzen.nl/webarticle05.htm last accessed on 17 Jan 2006.

Landscape could be described as a combination of geological, biological and culture-historical elements, forming a unity in a certain area as one vista.

In other words: an area enclosed by the horizon. [ 2 ]

This definition shows that landscape - in opposition of e.g. a zoological habitat or governmental district - is a visual notion. It is visually perceived space. [ 3 ]
And it is not limited to the natural environments of plant and animal. Human activities and their consequences are - a fact I like to stress - part of most landscapes.

Is town part of the landscape as well? As a consequence of the definition it is, but is generally not regarded as such. In my opinion this has to do with the lack of a real horizon in built-up areas - there are always buildings in front of it.

Since photographically landscape and street are different genres, I leave town out of this article from now on.

To be safe, make sure your photo has some horizon. If it is a close up of something natural, whether grass or a tree and the horizon is missing, then the photo might be removed.

This group has some lovely photos, please keep them on topic, keep them coming, and keep having fun.
