April HFG Photo Walk

Now that the warmer weather is here (or almost here) it's time to start thinking of having a walk.

Anyone have any ideas as to where to go?

I think we should try and keep it close to a bus stop for those that don't drive. My favourite from last year was the Desjardin Canal walk. If we get some rain (and I am sure we will) a waterfall walk would also be good. Albion is very close to a bus stop as are others.

Is it too early to think of having a midweek walk or should it be a weekend?

Lets hear everyones thoughts.

I just looked back at March's walk and realized it never happened! I was away and just assumed it had.

There were some good ideas and the most popular one (Firestone plant) can't be backed by the group for legality reasons. Feel free to do it small groups or on your own. Twenty people going there from the HFG and announced on here would have zero chance of being successful.

I agree with Phill. I think Firestone Plant is a risk for a group.
I will be up to any photowalk. It's always a pleasure.

I have scouted the firestone plant and the access is almost impossible now due to the new port security gates. I think when the other people went those gates and signs weren't in place yet.

Where is the Firestone plant? What does it have to do with the Port Security Gates?

This building isn't on Port Property is it? I think its next to our property. Can someone pin where it is on a Google Map for me?

(PS, I am a Port Authority Employee)

Edit:
From what I could find, the property is between Kenilworth and Strathearne. We own the old Pier 22 Rod mill, but there are no gates on it. I am guessing its one of the buildings on the Kenilowrth side of the Pier 22 property. No problem with the Port Authority there, just stay off of the pier 22 Rod Mill property.

It's hard to find anything about this plant. While searching the flickr for photos of Firestone with locations marked on the map it showed this plant as Firestone - (43.260926,-79.796458). Type whatever is in the bracket and copy it to google maps.

Another interesting building is the old Consumers Glass factory. It is used for movie sets quite often.

I'm liking where this is headed. I'm itching to shoot some urban decay. If it falls within legal boundaries count me in if anyone needs a partner (small group) to go shoot.

How about Stelco/U.S. Steel? Nobody would be in the way inside there in a little while...

It looked pretty dim there last night from the Burlington canal.

As I mentioned above a walk of this kind would never succeed as a public group walk so I started a new thread for any further discussion about Urban Exploring...

@kastytis:

The Stelco plant is still running, its just not making anything. There is still a lot of people working there.
