TAKE ACTION FOR HAKAMADA IWAO
Hakamada Iwao is believed to be the world’s longest serving death row inmate. He was convicted after an unfair trial in 1968, principally on the basis of a confession extracted under duress, and which he later retracted. On 10 March, Hakamada Iwao will turn 74. We’ll be using the occasion to call on the Japanese government to release or re-try him, and we need you to help us.
It’s easy:
1) Take a photo of yourself holding a sign saying Free Hakamada, in English or Japanese
(Japanese text can be downloaded here)
2) Upload to this flickr group or send your photo to: iar@amnesty.org.uk
We’ll then turn these into a giant visual message to present to the Japanese embassy in London on 10th March.
