The London Nobody Knows - Sat, November 1st
|
This film is having a free showing at Wilton's Music Hall next Saturday (Nov 1st). I'm fairly sure that they're just showing the DVD version you can buy from HMV shops, but if you haven't seen this great film, or been to Wilton's Music Hall then you might like to do this. Strangely, I can't find any information about this on their website, but it's definitely happening.
Sadly I won't be going myself as I'll be at a bonfire.

This film is also available to watch anytime at Mediateque, Southbank if you can't make it on Saturday.

It's also on YouTube, in five segments. I'm sure watching it at Wilton's would be much more enjoyable than squinting at it on YouTube, though.

Perhaps we should do a GWL showing - I have the DVD and a projector (and Finisterre, and Paul Scofield's London) - a London cult film and beer night would be cool.

A title like that begs the question of how they found someone to put the film together in the first place.
I'm sure that if Sir Michael Caine had been involved, he'd have made sure they called it 'The London Not Many People Know' ;o)

Capo2, it's based on the book of the same title by Geoffrey Fletcher, which is well worth reading - you can get it fairly cheap on Amazon.

OK everyone, lets go to steve_w's mansion. I'll bring the crisps.
Notice how everyone's politely ignoring Capo2's "joke", although it made me groan.

@ steve_w: Paul Scofield's London? Do you mean Patrick Kieller's London? I have great fun playing GWL with that, though half the locations aren't there anymore. And with Finisterre.
edit to add: a film night sounds like a really great idea if we could find a location with a big enough wall to project on.

@mondoagogo - D'oh - of course. Paul Scofield is the narrator.

With regard to a venue, I could probably get one of the rooms at the Crosse Keys on Gracechurch Street again, although it might be a little difficult the nearer we get to Christmas. All three rooms have large LCD TV screens (36"?), so just a DVD player would be needed. I will probably be in there on Monday. If we can get organised quickly (within the next two weeks), the beer festival beers will still be on. Would a Saturday be any good, maybe the 9th? The pub is open 9.00 am - 7.00 pm on Saturday.
