Most importantly, please make sure to tag new submissions with lincolnunguessed, answer guesses whether they are correct or not, and change tags to lincolnguessed when someone gets it right!

About Guess Where Lincoln

Lincoln, Nebraska has a very active group of Flickrites. Let's see who really knows the Capitol City the best.

Please post pix of various shots in Lincoln and see if people can figure out where they've been taken. Nothing too obvious, though -- the whole point is to make people try to figure out where your photo was taken. So...a photo with the name of the business or building in it is kind of pointless, and will be removed from the group. A close-up photo of some architectural feature of the same building, that doesn't immediately give away which building it is but is still somewhat unique...that's a keeper for this group.

Photos should be of something with a bit of permanence -- taking a photo of something that only briefly exists (a one-time only event, for example), would be less useful than taking a picture of some place or thing that has been and will be where it is for some time (architecture, art, gardens, etc.). Photos of things that are mobile are not encouraged. Similarly, photos should of unique things -- if your shot is too vague, it will be removed from the group.

Otherwise, anything and everything is fair game as long as it's within the confines of the city limits of Lincoln, Nebraska. And PLEASE, keep it safe for work. No point in alienating potential participants.

There are only three rules:

1. Shots must be of something or some place within the Lincoln, Nebraska, city limits.

2.Respond to people's guesses -- offering hints if it seems obvious that nobody's figuring out your mystery shot. And you really should participate by offering up guesses on other people's pics as well. We'll be a little loose here as this group launches, but the spirit of this kind of thing is that you shouldn't just put a photo in and walk away, because that's just looking for exposure for your own shots without helping the group to grow and flourish. We reserve the right in the future to remove shots from posters who don't also participate by guessing.

3. After a photo is guessed, please map or geotag it.

At present, participants are limited to posting no more than 2 photos per day! Initially, there will probably be "clustering" of participants photos. If/When more folks start contributing, it would be considered helpful if you don't post yours back-to-back -- allow for some interspersing of photos to create variety.

Obviously, try not to give the location away with your tags, title, caption or groupings -- you can always add in tags, etc., after the location has been guessed.

When posting a pic to the group, please add the tag lincolnunguessed to the photo. Once the photo is guessed, please remove the unguessed tag and replace with lincolnguessed as well as "the name of the person who guessed it" + "guessed" (ie. feel_the_greenguessed, foxspitguessed). Photos without appropriate group tags will generate a friendly reminder to the poster via flickrmail, but may be removed from the group if they don't ultimately follow the guidelines.

Oh, yeah -- use common sense! Photos of private property that most people can't get into are kinda pointless. Photos should be of places or things that are publicly accessible and not hidden away where no-one would think to look. Suggestions: Macros of small details of a larger, well-known place or thing, or unusual angles of recognizable landmarks that give away just enough details as to be challenging but are still capable of being figured out.
