About Great Photography, in Marc's opinion

Everyone thinks they know great art when they see it, and I am no exception. The photos in this group are my personal picks for the best photos on flickr (from those that were submitted by the artists).

Think you have a great photo? Submit it. If I like it (criterion #1), AND if I think it's great photography (criterion #2), it will be added to the pool.

Please don't take rejection personally; just because I don't like it doesn't mean it isn't great photography; and just because I don't think it's great photography, doesn't mean it isn't, nor that I don't like it. Besides, who am I to judge? Well, for a group called "Great Photography, in Marc's opinion", I guess I get to make the choices, eh?! Feel free to start your own group called "Great Photography, in -----'s opinion" and pick your own.

What Marc usually looks for when deciding if a photo is good enough for this group:

- Technically excellent photo (focus, balance, color, tone, exposure, etc.)
- Marc has to like it
- It should be interesting in some special way
- Marc can see this hanging on the wall of a museum
- Larger size available for viewing (very few will be accepted if they can't be seen in a larger size)
- Thought-provoking images

Not all of these conditions must be met, but this will give you some idea how decisions are made.

If you submit a photo (simply use the "Send to group" link above your photo), and if Marc thinks it's pretty good, but doesn't quite meet all his qualifications; he will leave a "rejection" comment on your photo. Read it carefully. Sometimes, he has suggestions for changes that, if made and re-submitted, will get your photo accepted.

Common reasons for rejection:
- Too blurry,
- Not very interesting,
- Can't view large enough size to decide if it's a great photo or not,
- Nothing special that sets it apart from a 1000 other photos.

By the way, just in case you were a little confused about who is Marc, I have two Flickr accounts, under two different screen names:
Mr. Physics
Soller Photo
They are both me. I use "Mr. Physics" for most of my "regular" flickr activities and most of my "regular" pictures. More recently, I added "Soller Photo" to explore photography more seriously, and perhaps consider going professional (but that's a different story). In any case, you will see comments and other activities under both screen names - whichever I happen to be signed in under at the time.
